Finally graduated. 4.5 yrs of my youth given to university. Oh gosh....time flies.
I didnt expect to receive my final results in a foreign land (well i was in China for backpacking when the results r out!). More importantly, i didnt expect to receive a fantastic result.....the best among my entire uni days. I wanted to have a big celebration ....but miser vincent lim ended up only having a tidbits party with a bunch of China friends. keke. My reasoning: BUDGETED trip.
Secured a good job and in the process of being procterized..... hopefully the process will be much smoother as the days go by. A colleague of mine going to hold a mini NUS Biz Sch Alumni gathering next Friday. Hurray!
Went for Lasik operation on 3rd Jan ..... finally say good bye to spectacles and contact lens. The feeling is SHIOK. I could imagine people with higher degree ....they will feel a greater impact after the surgery. But the process is rather scary ..... ask me if u r thinking of gg to do lasik. I will share my experience with u. |
|
If there is one word to describe me ....it will be LAZY! Promised myself to compile all the photos for my entire 4.5 yrs uni life and then create a special folder in facebook to share with fellow friends. As u can expect ....i have not started. Went backpacking instead. keke.
Told myself to take some pictures after my lasik operation. Argh .... didnt do it as well. Gosh.
Hit the gym to slim down ...... i bet u know the answer..... i haven gone to the gym for ages!
Well ..... must start somewhere .....yeah ....but when will that be?

Wow .... it has been ages since i last update my livejournal. Thought it has been deactivated by the operator. Thank goodness.
Decided to pen down my thoughts while i was attending my cousin's wedding earlier this evening.
My cousin Tian Ming 1978/9 and his wife Irene 1982 held their wedding at the CSC in Farrer Park. It has been more than 5 yrs since i attended any wedding dinner. And it has been ten or more yrs since i last met this cousin of mine. Come to think of it....time really flies.
Their wedding has this little cute gift --- a teddy beat put beside ur plate. I thought it was a very nice and sweet gesture to give such a door gift. As far as i remember, the one i received yrs ago was a box of chocolate or something of that kind.
THis wedding brought back alot of memories. I met so many relatives from my dad's side. Some uncles grow fatter and more ah pek, while 1 of them look so hip. He is definitely one of the most charming dude u can find in the wedding hall. He looks like a 17 yr old ah beng even though he is > 50 yrs old. At his age, he still wears tight fitting shirt, power right? ha
Looking around, i found relatives are more than friends for this newly wed couple. I do find wedding dinner a "performance" put up just for the sake of relatives rather than finding some close friends to celebrate this special occassion. How irony. :(
My parents and i were super early. There were less than 10 guests in the wedding hall. Looking at the ppt presentation of the photos of the bride and bridegroom .... i recalled the childhood days when i was pretty close to this cousin of mine.
During the wedding, the Mcee announced that they will flash photos of the 2 in their childhood days. Ha, i saw a pic of myself taken with this cousin @ the haw par villa.
Guess the next time when i see him....it will be only be during another relative's wedding. By then his kids would have been like 5 yrs old? ha. Can u imagine i have an uncle whose daughter is 5 yrs old and yesterday was the 1st time i met her? How sad. Can u imagine the sister of my cousin was married quite some time ago and has a kid already? I dunnoe man .... :( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Went for interview on Monday. The company security is as though those u can find in airport. And the lift is so high tech that i was so amused. TOok the lift to 20th floor...thought can get down from there to my 14th floor (dun ask me y such thinking and action) but only to realize i dunnoe how to operate the panel thingy outside the lift. The number pad is as though a password thing that u need to key in access number b4 u can get the lift going. So i decided to walk down the stairs to 14th floor but to my dismay the door cannot be opened. :( Glad someone came to my rescue.
Anyway i guess i cant passed the round 1 interview. The interviewer was too skilful for a half awake interviewee (me). :( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wishing Tian Ming and Irene bai tou xie lao...zao shen gui zi. =)

Had an argument with Prof Murray over the mid term exam question. Though i scored a decent grade, i still feel so frustrated over a question that goes:
What best defines technology? a) Machine which replaces labor b) A combination of methods and equipment that transforms input into output c) d)
Ignore the answers (c) and (d).
Obviously answer (a) = automation and answer (b) = process
So which do you think best defines technology? Should it be answer A ???
This prof refused to accept my explanation. At one pt of time, he made this remark: Maybe Singaporeans have a weird way of decipher these English words. Gosh, what a remark. Prior to that, he said that his definition was given in powerpoint slide (which is answer (b) ) and said that i could have sleep in class to miss that part.
I wish to counter argue by saying the following 2 things; (though i never) 1) i did copy down his definition. In fact, i am one of the rare few that made an attempt to copy down what was on the powerpoint slides. 2) claiming that these powerpoint slides are meant for corporate training, the prof refuses to upload them to the intranet nor distribute them in class. Absurd...then is he expecting us to have photo memory?
If the answer (a) is not found in the list of answers, i would definitely go for answer (b) ..but the ans (a) is a better definition of technology because:
1) how can you automate without technology? 2) you could transform input into output with or without technology. Methods can be technology based or non- technology based.
I feel so angry. Argh. I just want to tell this prof how silly he is to devise the exam paper with so many mistakes. He thought he was so great in devising 2 sets of question papers (with the questions being jumbled up), but only to realize some of his questions were different from the other set of question paper.
Hrmphh if Harvard Business Cases could be inserted into the supplementary readings, how much does it cost to obtain his copyrighted materials? Duhz... why dont he just go to KOrea Uni office and requested for $. Anyway most of his slides arent that fantastic. Afterall, most of his stuff could be easily obtained from any HR textbook. Perhaps the only thing unique is the various quotes he pulled off from the internet.
Stupid, absurd ...rubbish! Crap!

Sitting on the sofa in Korea Uni Sci Lib .... reminds me of the times i had with Justin in NUS Sci lib.... mugging, going for supper etc.
Just had my 2 mid terms and will be having my 3rd one tomorrow. Its a big irony i am taking courses whereby credits are not transferable. Oh well, no choice ..i've maxed out the S/U options.
It's raining heavily outside and that perfectly explain my current mood .... in a total mess. Life is never easy and life is full of decision making (with some unexpected changes to be made).
Was talking to my hostel fellow friends 2 nights ago and shared with them what i've lost (as a result for coming to KU):
1) missed my friend's wedding ceremony 2) missed my scholarship 2nd round interview 3) missed an opportunity to earn more income in the hols 4) etc etc etc
But still, i think its a very fruitful experience, mingling with Koreans. I've never interact with so many Koreans in my life. Its a good platform for me to experience their culture, their way of thinking and seeing what Seoul has to offer as a metropolitan city.
Same old question always pop up when i meet a new Korean friend: "How do you like Seoul?"
Same old answer: "Oh it has been awesome...." While this answer, to a large extent has being true, it has elements of lies too...
For one, i am rather surprised that Seoul does not have alot of high rise commercial buildings. If you are thinking Seoul is similar to Hong Kong, i will sugges that you do a google search on Seoul and see the pictures available.
Seoul is a fascinating place, in such a way that it presents dual facets, a blend of traditional and modern outlooks. It resembles Beijing. (palaces, squatters look-alike, dog meat lovers all over the place, policemen, etc)
1 interesting info i gathered is that Korean guys get to choose whether to go Police, Army, Navy or airforce. Training is much tougher in Korea. A typical NS guy in Korea has to be able to do 50 push ups at 1 go.... and thats the bare minimum. All NS guys MUST be Takewondo black belt holder at the point of leaving military service. If Singapore NS guys want to complain about the monthly allowance, please hear me out .... KOREANS are getting USD40 per month. Whats more, their confinement period is 100 days.... meaning upon sending to the training base (tekong equivalent), they wont be able to return home for a period of 100 days. Sob sob.
Other interesting findings: 1) If u r peeing in the male's toilet, using the urinals..... u gotta be more careful. Except 1 urinal, all others can be seen from the outside. Should someone walk past the toilet, your peeing motion will be seen. lolx
2) DVD -bang: A mate out place for high school students. Price = $7000 WON (about $7 USD). Duration of sex is dependent on the movie length. You can easily guess that movies like Titanic is the most sought after movie in the DVD bang. If you are a serious movie lover who wishes to go for cheaper movie watching place, be prepared to hear some weird sound from next door. (sound proof system is not that good)
3) Public toilets..... toilets can be found at various places, ranging from convenience stores to stand alone toilets. Seoul government really look into the welfare of the citizens.
4) Reckless drivers --- Similar to China, buy insurance before you come Seoul. Drivers are "blind" and are much superior than pedestrians. Never attempt to walk a step back, cause a passing by car may knock you down. The car can drive past you with a marginal distance that is less than 10cm. To get a license in Korea is not difficult and is much faster than in SG.
5) Beer. I cant stress on this pt. I bet i have mentioned in my previous entry. Beer is Korean men and women's favourite drink. They cant live without it.
6) Sauna/ Jimjibang: Dip into the hot tub of water and cleanse your body and relieve your stress. You will be thrilled by the number of beer bellies and soggy dicks in the male section. I cant comment on the female's section. But of course, there are some muscular guys whereby they made me feel so inferior. :(
7) Clubbing. Last friday of each mth is known to be the Club Day. For a price of $15,000 Won, you can go to 13 clubs in Hongik Uni area. (one of the most happening clubbing place in Seoul)
8) Duck. Try to search for a duck. I bet u cant. I have yet to see 1 duck in Seoul. I want duck meat. :(
Will try to post some pics asap. Be back in SG on 10th. :) I want duck ..i want duck..... i missed SG food. :( Current Mood: bitchy

Too lazy to update about my life in Korea.
32 more days before i leave S.Korea. Life in Seoul has been an "interesting" one. Not so much about scenic views or shopping (anyway i am not a shopping king and i kinda hate squeezing in the jam-packed Myeongdong, Chungmuro ..etc), but the idea of meeting new friends in a foreign land.
I've noticed many of my new found korean friends are taking CPA. A trend? Beats me .... lazy to ask. Hhahaa ... i am SUPER duper lazy.
I guess by next week, i should have finished all the major tourist attractions in Seoul. Wont be going Pusan or Cheju until October, when i make a trip down from China during the 1 week long holiday.
Yesterday was a super long and tiring day. Met up with a bunch of 8 people and thereafter went for citytour (close to 2hrs... :( ) Had Bingsu (ice-kachang equivalent) and then took a not-so-worth it cable car to Namsan Tower. We had really cute pics taken there. (waiting for the gang to find a suitable site to upload all the photos). Night activities after dinner: HOF (a place to drink fruitty shoju) and JimJiBang (cant remember the correct spelling).
Jimjibang is another version of sauna. Unlike sauna, jjb has a co-ed area and/or a communal hall for both males and females to hang out together.
The cost of entering is $8000 WON (1000 won is roughly equals to $1 USD). Though it was not my first time there, i still felt very excited about it. Furthermore, we had a total of 10 ppl (someone joined us @ night for night activity...so from 9 became 10).
It was a gang of "jailbirds" .... the t-shirt and shorts resemble those u can find in Changi Prison, just that we dont have number printed on the shirt. Very international : 2 Hongkongers, 2 Koreans, 2 Singaporeans, 1 UK, 1 USA, 1 Indonesia and 1 Philippines.
I told the gang that such a jjb can never exist in Singapore. Perhaps our culture cannot tolerate guys walking around with a piece of cloth covering the private part. Sauna/jjb is a place where u see free shows and a place for ppl to show off their assets. Lolx.
It is also a place for couples/families to hang out there...watching TV ..dip in jacuzzi, enter sauna (or what we usually called the steam room), ice room (temperature is about 15 degree celsius only) and other ammenities.
For those who intend to visit Taiwan, Japan or Korea ... u should not give Sauna/JJB a miss. =)

Today marks the 1 mth 1 day "anniversary" for my trip to Seoul. My internship just ended last friday and i must say that this internship is indeed a very fruitful and memorable one.
I came with a "blank" mind ... or probably a partially prepared mindset. Lots of things happened prior to my trip to Korea. In fact, in my previous entry, i think i wrote down how hurried i was, on the day of my flight.
While this internship is a non-paid for one, it has given me an insight to the life of a market researcher, plus getting a taste of a Korean working life.
4 reports + miscellaneous ad hoc tasks were my accomplishments for the entire internship period. I truly understanding this HR saying: " A happy worker is a productive worker". Had i not being enjoying myself in the company, i bet the productive will be significantly lower.
Yesterday was my last night in this hostel. Will be moving over to Nam Sam Guesthouse this afternoon (with the help of my student).
Yes, i found a Korean student who wants to hone his mandarin conversation skills. Although its not a high price --- 70,000 WON (about 70 USD) for 16 hours of tuition, i guess i dont mind taking up this job while i am in Korea. Talk for 16 hours and i can get a web cam (+ mic) + some cash, why not?
If the student is satisfied with my service, he will recommend more friends or even continue this tuition service even after i leave Korea. But i am not sure whether will i be real busy when i am in Kunshan.
TIll today, i still have lots of things in my mind. Due to my personality, i tend to bottle things up.... its hard for me to find someone and share my sorrows or secrets. Hiya.
9.47 am korean time .... about 3 more hours .... i will be leaving this hostel. A place that i never really enjoy my stay here. No meals , bad internet connection, stuffy living room, small rooms .... its not an ideal place to stay for vacation. I seriously wonder why are there so many testi from previous customers. Are they paid to write such comments. I seriously dont think this guesthouse is any where near the standard of a GOOD hostel. If anyone tried hostels in Whistler and complains ..... come see this guesthouse and u will appreciate what u have in Whistler.
Going to a new hostel right outside KU ..... a small place as well...but i heard its much more cosy than Guesthouse Korea. We shall see.......

| » Getting Fatter |
|
Thought i will slim down in Seoul. Because i came here with budget constraint. But end up getting fatter..... argh.
Friends bought me food.... collegues treated me to lunch and dinner. Thank goodness i cant speak Hanguel, else i will buy all those street foods (junk food) and get even fatter.
Received an email from Jessie, saying that i will be entitle to NASA Enhancement Award. Though its only $500, but i guess like what Nicole said, its better than nothing.
Still waiting for Alumni House to revert back to me on whether i get anything from them. Pray hard hard.
I almost couldnt tolerate my guesthouse ....wireless connection in the entire guesthouse ... my foot. I have to carry my stuff downstairs in order to receive connection. And the living room is so stuffy .... If no guests are drinking beer, the aircon will NOT be on. Gosh .... I am an aircon boy. :P
There is this noticeboard whereby you can pen down your after-stay thoughts. I feel like writing CHINESE wordings and inform others who can read Chinese NOT to stay in the guesthouse.... because its really horrible. Limited kitchen facilities, no free lunch and dinner.
Glad i made a quick decision NOT to stay in KU hostel during Summer Prog. It cost me $600K WON. I found one hostel right outside KU for just $300K WON. Its half the price. Multiply by 1.689 and you know how much Sing dollars can i save. Lolx
I intend to study HSK when i am in Shanghai. (or to be exact: Kunshan) I want to secure Advance level qualification before i graduate. This allows me to stand a greater chance to secure a MNC job in China. But to be frank, i prefer to go Vancouver and work. I dont know .... just see which country wants me ... lolx
I was made to do a comparison of P&G and Unilever global, japan and china performance. Finished it before 6 and i was able to leave office at 6.30. First time i can leave office on the dot man! So great.
Scout for some groceries and prefer my first proper dinner. Lolx. I made some Vincent Lokmee .... let me see how much is the food:
$333 Won for mushroom $500 Won for noodles $400 Won for tuna
Its like than $1500 Won. A decent dinner in Seoul costs at least $4000 Won.
Well going to revise my Hanguel soon. Ciao.

Just reached Korea 4 days ago. A really exciting journey ahead of me for the next 70 odd days. For someone who cant utter one complete Korean sentence, i am put into a real survival test.
Touching down @ Incheon International Airport was the start of my internship cum summer prog in Korea. Had i chosen KU pickup, it would have cost me USD80 bucks. Thanks to my korean friends, they have assisted me in taking the bus (that costs $8 USD) from airport to Seoul. [ the airport is located at a city call Incheon which is about 1 - 2 hours drive from Seoul ]
My flight was supposed to reach Korea on 31st May @ 7.45pm at night. However, i was lucky enough to get the earlier flight from Bangkok ( my transit point) to Incheon. It was really lucky for me to catch this earlier flight because finding the way at night is never easy in whole new environment ---- Getting to my Guesthouse Korea ( my accomodation for the month of June) was a challenge even for my Korean friends. THis guesthouse is located at Anguk area.
ALthough the facilities are not good AT ALL, i dont mind staying here for a month because: 1) cheap --- $350,000 WON 2) near town area
The only sad thing is that breakfast is only bread , jam and butter. My other friends who are staying in another hostel are offered noodles and 1 egg for lunch and dinner. Thus, settling lunch and dinner would be a key issue for me.
1 decent meal in Seoul costs about 5000 WON. For simplicity, slash the 3 zeros behind to obtain USD figure. THis means, a decent meal costs 5 USD. Multiply this figure by about 1.54 and you can figure out how much it costs in SGD.
Taking a subway ride costs, on average 1000 WON.
Oh back to the FIRST TIME thingy, today is my first day at work (internship). I am interning at Telluce Marketing, one of the 43 members of EOSMA in Korea.
First time receiving flowers on the first day of work. First time receiving free lunch from a lady. These are the customs of Koreans. In this society, the most senior staff of the lunch group will foot the bill.
First time working from morning till 10pm. My highest record was with Merrill Lynch whereby my first day at work was till about 8 or 9pm.
My first time having no dinner on the first day at work. But luckily, the boss bought some fried & BBQ chicken wings and we had a small gathering at the pantry room.
First time doing overseas internship. My 2nd one will be in Kunshan. (August.... 2007)
The time right now is 11.02pm. Although i am tired, i feel that i cant let this day go by without penning down what happened to me.
It is really an awesome experience for me in Korea, having to bring around subway station map and hunting for the correct route to take. Trust me, if you have NEVER been to Korea, if i give you the subway map, you will feel lost.
And today, i had some difficulty in locating the office. Thanks to those friendly koreans who have showed me the way to the office. Koreans are friendly people.
One interesting thing happened today is that i saw a green shirt (short sleeve) guy wandering around in office. Sitting inside the office room is one guy wearing suit and tie. Interesting enough, the green shirt guy turned out to be the President of the company while the guy in full formal is a new comer. Lolx. I thought the green shirt guy is a pantry UNCLE. OOps...... i did not even greet him this morning. I better be GUAI GUAI tomorrow, if i want my remaining days to be good.
Haa ... tomorrow is Tuesday and wednesday is a national holiday for Seoul. Hurray, i am going clubbing and public bath house with my friend(s). Its party night tomorrow.
Good nite ..... time to catch some sleep before the brand new day starts!

| » China Study Trip |
8th --- 14th May 2007: Beijing
A very worthy trip. I am glad i did not back out from this trip. It was more than just a tour, it was a networking session, meeting both NUS and Tsinghua future business leaders.
Grace, my team mate in this study trip is someone you would take your hat off her. Being a first year business student, she has already demonstrated the sheer determination to shine in the business arena. While other students are busily chatting and touring around the companies (yes we went to several financial institutions), you could see her exchanging namecards and engaging small talks with the CEO or top management.
Although she is not proficient in Chinese, she has put in conscious effort to talk to the Chinese in their own language and she could even tour around places by herself. A lady that you should get to know. Impressive!
~~~~~~~
Jianwen. We belong to the same cohort and occasionally we will smile to each other if we bumped into each other in sch. Surprisingly, he is in Beijing too, having a holiday while studying for his CFA. (wooo .... no wonder he could earned a place in Merrill Lynch Hong Kong for his internship last summer. Finally get to know him in person through a gathering at a club in Hou Hai. Another guy you ought to meet up with.
~~~~~~~
Tsinghua students are very intelligent and friendly. Met this guy ----- Zhao Yan Chen. We hit off really well and ppl ask why do we appear to be so close to each other. Guess some ppl u would feel as though you have known him/her for ages. (although its the first meeting)
Anyway more updates soon .... time to settle some stuff ---- reply to emails, settle korea internship and stuff. Arghhh time not enough..... money not enough ...what else not enough ??? lotsa stuff NOT ENUFF la ....

| » Congrats Angela |
It has been years since i attended someone's wedding.
This afternoon, i received a phone call from Angela, my polytechnic friend. It has been a long time since i hear from her. THe first thought that came to my mind is: "Could she have joined MLM and ask me to buy products?"
Hahaha .. my bad. She was actually calling me up and tell me she is getting married. I am so happy to hear that my friend is getting married.
Angela is those typical ah lian back in polytechnic days. Hahaha .... i couldnt imagine how both of us can click in polytechnic. She used to call me Dinosaur because i could gobble up lots and lots of DA BAO.
A gorgeous lady who always gain attention from guys, especially from Engineering side. BUt there was this incident that i never forget. We were passing by a lab where there were practically more than 20 guys inside the lab. The moment she walked past, all lab work was stopped and all the guys were like looking at her and probably drooling at her beauty. I have no idea how they sensed a gorgeous lady was going to walk past the lab that the moment she walked past, the spotlight was on her. :)
I asked Angela for her wedding date but unfortunately the date clashes with my summer prog. She is having her wedding on 5th July 2007. Sigh .... i will miss my poly friend's wedding..... feel ultra sad.
Angela, i hope u have found ur true happiness and u have my blessing. Quickly give birth to xiao angela ... and make sure he/she call me uncle vincent.
I shall get her a present from Korea. Come to think of it .... it has been 5 yrs since i graduated from polytechnic..... time really flies.

| » Tired |
I am really tired.... From the beginning of the semester ...i felt so tired and lost. Lost my form ....lost my confidence in presentation ..lost alot of energy.
This is especially true for my Asian Marketing. Whenever i was assigned to present infront of the class ... i felt like i was so unprepared and uneasy .... The only console is that i was able to voice out my thoughts and ideas freely in Technological Innovation class.
Or was it because i have chosen 2 marketing modules + 2 TR modules that made my workload so hectic. Whats more ..the GEK was perhaps one wrong choice ...i should have put in more pts for Cyber Crime module. :(
My first exam paper was Technological Innovation: 25th April: 9am 6 questions to be answered within 2 hours. Essay format ..no pt form. I wrote until my hand and neck ache like mad.
2nd paper was Entrepreneurial Marketing: 26th April 9am THough i'm a marketing major student, i wasnt very confident for the exam. Sigh
3rd paper was GEK: Evaluating health claim: 27th APril 2.30pm I thought 9am paper was shiok ..2,30pm timing was lagi worst. Should i wake up at 7am then study till 11am and catch a nap b4 head down to sch? This was the consideration made and trust me....i was troubled in making such a trivial decision
4.30pm: PENS DOWN! i was surprisingly not excited over the start of my holiday .... even right now ..i dont have the holiday mood. Weird weird weird.
I could still remember the moment my last exam paper finished in UBC ...i was like rushing back to hostel and catch a nap b4 packing my bag for whistler trip on the next day. :) At least there was some form of excitement.
Anyway i really wonder whats wrong with me this semester. Have i really been tired out by lots of sch work, personal problem and other stuff. I guess so ..but hope everything will be fine. Sigh!

| » more about bertrand |
hahhaa i cant get his name off my head.
I knew him thru marcus, a friend of mine in NTU. When i first met him, he gave me a very pro look. A "X-factor" i would think is essential for a future business leader.
He proved my prediction correct when i saw him hosting the official opening of SMU Lee Kong Chian Business School. Among so many articulate students in SMU, he was chosen for the job, that goes to show 2 things: 1) he is a high profile SMUian 2) he has the substance
no wonder he could articulate so well during the assessment centre. if there is an opportunity to work with him in the future, i think it will be a very good learning opportunity.
Anyway more info about him: 1) double majoring in marketing & finance 2) year 2 business students ( by yr 2 he already demonstrates all the virtues of a future business leader ...gosh) 3) going canada for exchange 4) going india for internship
Based on my understanding and wat my SMU friends told me, exchange and internship opportunities are hard to get. He gets both of them ...wooo ... power guy la.
If he is not chosen for the 2nd round of interview, i seriously doubt who can be capable of clinching the mid term scholarship from STB.
I wouldnt be surprised if he has applied for SPRING scholarship as well ...30K for each year lei........................ wow ... more than enough to cover my entire undergraduate tuition fee.
Back to books again. Must finish my EM reading today. In sci lib right now ..... shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

| » STB Assessment Centre |
Gone case ... gonna be axed by the 1st round of "interview".
Horrible start as i was rushing from sch to STB. Took a cab down and reached there at about 1.32pm. The power of taxi ....SPEED! The assessment centre started at 2pm. *(though not on the dot)
There were about 20 odd students attending this assessment centre for STB Mid Term Scholarship. Saw 2 familiar faces ...yocksong and bertrand. SMU friends of mine .... irony ... even though there were over 15 NUS students, none of them happen to be a friend or project mate of mine.
Went thru a total of 3 rounds: 1st round...ball game. Yes ...we play balls. Oh pls ..not that kind of basketball or soccer ball. 6 color balls to be pass among 6 of us. Oh we were split into teams of 5 or 6 people. Bertrand was in my group. :)
2nd round: group discussion. Usual stuff of asking u to discuss what items to keep if u r stranded in an island. But this time round...we were "throw" into the vast ocean. 15 items to be ranked and 3 invigilators were there to assess how we fare , how we articulate our viewpoints , etc. I guess i din do badly for this round. As for the first round, i think bertrand was the best. In this round, he sort of acted as the facilitator which i guess will help him score pts too. Knowing that 1 of my toughest competitor will be bertrand, i took the iniative of writing down our group's decision on the flipchart. Hahahaa .... everything about wayang in the assessment centre.
3rd round ... individual presentation. Thought i could do a decent job. However, to my horror, i seriously did VERY badly for this round. My topic was: "a new type of toothpaste that is black in color". Geesh ... i couldnt even talk about it for 1 min. Guess too tensed up for this round .... sigh
Anyway, assessing the people in my group.... i think bertrand should be able to proceed to the next round of interview on 7th may. Next possible candidate will be the indian guy. As for the 2 FASS + 1 chinese guy .... i think their chances and mine are on par ..and are unlikely to make it to the next round.
Whatever is the outcome, i was glad to be given a chance for being invited for this assessment centre. If i did not guess wrongly, the entire assessment centre is only 1 day and 1 session... so among all the applicants for this mid term scholarship, i feel honor to be selected, despite the fact that my supporting documents were badly "furnished". Trust me, i hate doing paperwork for all these kind of scholarship/bursary. I submitted my application on the very last day and my certs were captured via camera and not been scanned. So you must have guess correctly that they were rather blur and pixeted.
Sigh.... anyway back to my books again. Worried for the exams first. Being rather lazy this sem. Can someone spank my buttock. I give u the authority to do so.
sad vinc disappointed over my performance for today's assessment centre

Everyone is concern with his/her own grades, that goes without say. But over-concern seems to be scary, isnt it?
Met jinhui and his friends at NP library. Had an hour or so of chilling out at the bubble tea bar. Saw this lady ordering 1 cup noodle + 1 bubble tea. I was seriously wondering whether was she trying to save on the food just to buy the bubble tea? Hmmmm i am not a big fan of bubble tea.... maybe thats why i couldnt understand why would anyone substitute a proper meal with a cup of expensive bubble tea.
Chatted with jh and learnt that he is in the director's list again....so happy for him. He came from ITE and has made ITE proud by clinching the prestigious award for the 2nd consecutive semester. He aims to study in NUS or SMU and has set his goal clear ---- getting more and more distinctions. Wow. Its good to be motivated but he seems very stressed up by the grades stuff.
This morning, went to ICA to collect my biometric passport and headed down to China Embassy to obtain my 90 days visa. Wow .... the people there arent that friendly ... :(
Came to NUS to sit through an internship briefing. Wow .... year 1, 2,3 .... a total of 15 BBA students going for the 1st Shanghai internship program. Feel kind of lucky to be chosen for this internship to Lorenzo. It was a big decision for me to make, consider the fact that i will be missing 1 sem. And that makes me even more "special" ---- Pilot scheme for shanghai internship prog organized by NUS BBA Career Services Centre, and being the ONLY one going on 1 sem internship.
Whats more, xinyi (the other girl going to Lorenzo) and myself will be getting FREE accomodation + airfare. And our pay is consider one of the highest (if not the highest) among the interns. Getting $500 per month as compared to counterparts who are getting as low as $300 per mth. Most of them (if not ALL of them) have to source for their own accomodation and buy their own air tickets. Angie and Nicky bought the air tickets (return) for $1200++ ..... wow ... plus they have to pay for their accomodation, which can easily hit SGD300 per mth. Woooo .....
Most of them are going for bank internship ..... while i am going to a manufacturing company.
The common question was raised by Angie again: Whats my CAP score. Or whats my class of honours.
As usual, i decided to say: "Secret larhhhhhhhhh....."
Back to books again .... for what ? Grades lor..... =)

| » 25th Birthday |
5th April 2007 ---- A super low key birthday celebration. Had a project meeting @ 4.30pm when i met joe in Conference Room C. Told him its my bdae and had a firm handshake from him and of course ..birthday well wishes. He was the first person to wish me happy birthday in person.
Bought 3 piece chicken set and 1 slice of cake. Celebrated for myself. Pathetic isnt it?
Had my shower and suddenly phone rang....it was from Joe. Did not expect that he would travel all the way down with michelle to celebrate my birthday at my void deck. Was so touched by his actions. If they had not been here, i guess my birthday would be one that is without birthday song.
4 slices of cakes from Coffee Bean + candles + lots of jokes ...they made my birthday a memorable one. =) We took videos and photographs.
If you are thinking that joe and i knew each other for years .... i'm sorry to say that joe and michelle are friends whom i have just met in this semester, from a project called "Entrepreneurial Marketing".
Once again, thanks Joe and Michelle for spending the time and $ on my 25th birthday. I'm really touched and appreciative of what you guys did. =)

| » Internship with Lorenzo |
Good news ... i am going CHINA ... oh yes! Have been crossing my hands since the day of interview. I learnt the good news from Stephanie this morning @ her office.
Cant wait to break the news to my Ngee Ann poly lecturer Ms Koh PT. Too bad she is not in school, else i will tell her in person.
My role down there will be marketing + HR. Lolx.... it was supposed to be a HR internship, but guess my sales track record made them consider me as a marketing intern. I even boast 1 thing: "If anyone can survive in DFS, there is not sales environment that the person will be defeated." Hope it doesnt sound too arrogant. But seriously, apart from fragrance, i am pretty comfortable in doing sales for all other products --- paint, painting package, xmas cards, cashcards, corporate gifts, liquor and tobacco.
Should i extend 1 more sem or just cramp whatever left in 1 sem after i returned from CHINA? Oh well, lets not worry about this first, settle my Services Marketing exam. Ohhh no ..its written test ... as explained by my prof--Ms Regina. She is indeed a nice prof.
Hope i can score well for the test. Wish me luck. Ciao!

| » NTU is AMAZE-ing |
Hahaha... what so amazing about NTU??? Well, at least it makes me feel like writing my blog.
I was there as usual .... hmmm this sem NTU is my study ground.
Though i knew that there isnt aircon .... but 1 thing for sure ...their tutorial rooms are not closed. Irony, i paid so much sch fee to NUS and yet i couldnt get access to 1 single room in NUS on Sunday.
Nevermind, i always like to explore new places. Instead of going to Engine tutorial room .... i went to biological science building. Woo ... brand new building. Air con SUPER POWERFUL..... =)
So whats the maze about.????? I was at my 2nd station --- NBS (Nanyang Business School) revising and when i was making my way to NIE (to take bus 199) ... i couldnt find my way there. Guess what ? I walked 1 big round.... only to realize i am back at NBS.
And u noe what .... highest floor for NTU is not 4, not 3, not 2 ...its 1. Yes! Its level 1. Level 1 --- Roof top level.... NTUians like to walk along the rooftop .... interesting!
Its so AMAZING to see all the grey buildings .... they make me feel like i am walking in a mega industrial park.
Uniquely NTU.... =) NTUians reading my blog ...please dont hammer me ah. No hard feelings =)
